The excitement of sport & the rigors of science
Under strict rules, limited resources, and the guidance of volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, teams of 25+ students have just six weeks to build and program robots to perform challenging tasks against a field of competitors. They must also raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and perform community outreach. In addition to learning valuable STEM and life skills, participants are eligible to apply for $25+ million in college scholarships.
Lake Monsters Robotics
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC)
Grades 9-12 | Ages 14-18
Lake Monsters Robotics builds a competition-ready robot in 6 weeks to compete in the annual international FIRST Robotics Competition. From concept to competition, students learn through doing how robotics works. This 20+ member team, guided by a core team of 10 engineering and business mentors, meets in a machine shop lab at Lakeridge High School. Interested in engineering? Design the robot in CAD. Work with heavy machinery to fabricate robot parts. Create a complex electrical system to power the robot. Bring the robot to life with Java software. Interested in business? Design team branding, including t-shirts, banners, flyers, website and social media. Raise funds and coordinate community outreach. All Lakeridge and Lake Oswego High School students are welcome (no experience necessary). Training season runs from September to December on Monday and Wednesday nights. Competition season runs from January to May on Monday-Thursday nights and Saturdays (choose 1 to 2 weeknights and Saturday to participate). Training season fees are $150 and competition season fees are $250 (scholarships available). Visit www.frc2635.org, email email@example.com or call 503-756-5425 for details.
